The 3 Things Your Backyard Needs For Summer

In our opinion, backyard design doesn’t get enough love. It’s so easy to focus on your kitchen, or your living room, and forget all about the other major living space in your home- the great outdoors!

Of course, you could just stick a few lawn chairs out there and call it a day, but that might not leave you with that super inviting space you’ll actually want to use. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Today, we’re sharing three of the hottest trends in backyard design to help you to breathe new life into yours.

Fire Pits

Fire pits are the first backyard trend we’re loving. Honestly, they’re not even truly a trend– they’re a timeless outdoor living staple. However, more and more people are incorporating them into their spaces, and it’s a fantastic feature that will make you want to spend more time outside any time of year.

Fire pits are tons of fun. They allow you to roast s’mores the right way (no more microwaved marshmallows for you!) and provide a great place to sit and hang out with friends and family in the evenings. In the cooler months, they supply much-needed warmth to keep your outdoor living space usable year-round.

You can buy fire pits at multiple price points, from under $100 to well over $1,000. This is a great option if you’re going for a particular style.

However, if you’d like a more traditional-style fire pit, you’re a tiny bit handy, and you’re on a budget, this DIY fire pit by The Shabby Creek Cottage is an easy weekend project that can be completed in just an hour!

Bringing The Indoors Out

Don’t tell the other two, but this is our current favorite backyard trend- bringing the indoors out! Which is exactly what it sounds like.

Gone are the days of unsightly camp chairs, painful wrought iron and leg-numbing wood- make room for comfortable furniture in your backyard!

Weather-proof fabrics and materials are making some serious headway in outdoor furniture pieces. So now it’s actually possible to make your backyard feel like extra living space. Having cozy-looking furniture in your backyard makes your space feel inviting, and encourages people to sit down and stay a while.

Add a few homey touches, like a rug, and even a coffee table to really complete the look.

Our newest collection, Tanah, fits this bill exactly. It’s a great modular set that gives you the freedom to make your space as big or as small as you need.

Or if you want something truly your own, we have a custom order option for seating that looks just like what you would put in your living room, but built to last in the great outdoors.

Brand new special order collection that offers custom outdoor upholstery that looks like you brought the indoors out!

Pops Of Color

The last trend we’re covering in today’s post is pops of color.

In years past, backyard design skewed towards browns and neutrals and ‘earthy’ colors, in an attempt to blend in with the surrounding environment. But we’ve started to see color come back into design in a strong way, and the outdoors is no exception!

Remember those wrought iron and wooden pieces we said were totally out this year? Instead of tossing them, repurpose them. Give them new life with some color! Check out this guide by Nerds View on how to repaint wrought iron, or this one by The Shabby Creek Cottage (man, she is really on a roll with these backyard trends!) on repainting wood furniture.

Consider adding color in some of those homey touches we mentioned earlier: a fun rug, a mosaic coffee table, or even just a few toss pillows would all make great accents.

We hope this post inspires you to give extra TLC to your backyard, and turn it into the living space it was always meant to be. Summer has only just started- so spruce up your backyard and take advantage of it!
