It’s that time of year again. Every six months we pack up our bags and head up to High Point, North Carolina for “the big show.” Showrooms covering over 12 million sq.ft. and every type of decor and design you can imagine are filled with vendors from all over the world. We go to look at new product introductions, find new vendors and be inspired by the beautifully designed showrooms — taking LOTS and LOTS of photos along the way. Read on to find our top trends we found at this spring’s High Point Market (HPMKT).
1. Gold Toned Metals
Whether gold, brass, bronze, or somewhere in between gold toned metals have been slowly taking over the reign that silver finishes have held for so long. As people are starting to blend the new gold metals with the silver tones they already have, we are seeing a great blend that mixes all metallics for a beautifully designed space.
2. Tufting and Velvet
From headboards to sofas to benches, if something was upholstered this market, there’s a good chance it was tufted. This trend has been picking up steam in the past few years, and it seems every showroom was featuring tufting in its upholstery this market. While we saw many tufted linen looks, velvet came out with a strong showing as fabric of choice when tufting.
3. Blues
Blue is definitely the go-to color pop right now. In every shade from turquoise to navy, all the shades of blue are having a moments. Mix them together (as seen in the below vignette from Southern Furniture) for a peacock inspired vignette that will have everyone ooh-ing and aah-ing.
4. Acrylic
Last market we saw pieces fully made out of acrylic that packed a lot of pizzazz. This time around acrylic found itself paired with beautiful metals, live edge tables, and even used in more subtle ways as drawer pulls and bed posts.
5. Scandinavian Design
We’ve seen this clean-lined, minimal, midcentury design (but typically using lighter woods) start to unfold for a year or so now, and this time around market it felt a little more pervasive. Add a few cacti and you’re halfway to Sweden.
6. Colors of the Year: Rose Quartz and Serenity
So, it was safe to say that blue is definitely the pop of color of choice, but the Pantone colors of the year sure tried to give it a run for its money. Rose Quartz and Serenity were seen all over bedrooms, living rooms, and mostly in accent chairs and pillows. It’s always fun to play around with accents of color when the mood strikes you to change it up a little!
So that’s our wrap up for this spring’s market. What’s your favorite trend in home decor right now?
